SBI Investment Portfolio Company XCENA Unveils MX1 at ‘Hot Chips 2026’… Up to 4.7x Data Throughput and 18.7x Energy Efficiency
- XCENA, an SBI Investment portfolio company and fabless developer of memory-centric AI infrastructure, unveiled ‘MX1,’ its mass-production CXL computational memory, in the memory session of ‘Hot Chips 2026,’ the world's most prestigious semiconductor conference. CEO Kim Jin-young emphasized that “the axis of competition in AI infrastructure will shift from compute performance to memory efficiency.”
- MX1 comes in two versions: ‘MX1 Expand,’ specialized for CXL-based memory expansion, and ‘MX1 Compute,’ which carries more than 1,000 RISC-V cores to process data close to where it is stored. According to the company, it improves throughput by up to 4.7 times and energy efficiency by up to 18.7 times compared with conventional CPU-based data processing (results vary by workload).
- Rather than competing with memory manufacturers, XCENA aims to be a partner that expands the CXL ecosystem. It is currently validating its products with a major global cloud provider and is targeting full commercialization in 2027.
