SBI Investment Portfolio Company Crocus Selected as Lead Organization for MOTIE’s National Project to Develop an AI Autonomous Control-Based Solid-State Transformer System

  • Crocus, an SBI Investment portfolio company providing AI-based smart grid solutions, has been selected as the lead organization for the R&D project ‘Development of an AI Autonomous Control-Based Solid-State Transformer System for Optimizing Data Center Power Quality,’ overseen by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).
  • The project will develop a multi-terminal solid-state transformer (SST) system based on silicon carbide (SiC) devices that supports 13.8 kV input and 800 V output. The Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI), Konkuk University's Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and the Korea Electrical Industry Technology Research Association will participate as joint research institutions, with LS ELECTRIC advising on system design, and the project will run through integrated verification on a 300 kW-class simulated system.
  • As the spread of generative AI drives a surge in data center power demand, CEO Lim Ji-seop said, “In the North American market, companies are already competing to invest in technologies that improve the power efficiency, power quality and operational stability of AI data centers,” expressing his hope for broader innovation in Korea's data center power infrastructure.
